Qmusic + Sugar High = Trouble

It was about time. My best friend and I hardly ever go out—like, ever—so we figured, “Let’s just go for it. Time to party!”

The week before, we’d seen Jay Francis live, second row seats and everything. It was insanely funny—I couldn’t stop laughing at the part where he was mimicking himself in the mirror. I honestly had to force myself to keep it together, because you never know if he’ll call you out. Glad I managed!

We had checked how long the trip would take by public transport, but that decision was made quickly: we were driving. From where we live, it would’ve taken two and a half hours by train and bus. Way too long.
I’m almost never the designated driver, haha, but this time I told myself: “Come on, just do it. No way I’m spending that much time on trains and buses.” So that’s exactly what I did.

Off we went to Breda. She brought two bags of candy (if you know me at all, you already know where this is going). Yep—one bag on the way there, the other on the way back. Terrible, I know. But that’s just how we are. We love it.

We chatted about anything and everything during the drive. Honestly, if our car convos were a podcast, it would be gold. We never shut up, in the best way possible.

We decided to grab a healthy dinner first at… Burger King. Of course. And to top it off, it started raining while we were on the road—so, yay for extra atmosphere, right?

We had nothing to complain about though. Made it to Breda in just about an hour and were soon sitting warm and dry inside Burger King with our chili cheeseburger meals and vanilla milkshakes. I’m obsessed with those milkshakes. Probably because I love iced coffee—but then again, this is like the coffee-less version. Just as good, just different.

After our fine dining experience, we got back in the car and headed to the venue where the Qmusic party was happening (always a good time). It was pouring by then, and ironically we were actually lucky we left our umbrellas in the car. Because once we got through security—bags thoroughly searched, by the way—they made us toss our deodorant. Bit of a bummer, but hey, lesson learned for next time.

We rented a locker and headed in. First impressions? It kind of had an Asian vibe to it, based on the decorations hanging from the ceiling. Maybe it was just my Korea obsession kicking in again—although my bestie agreed it had something going on.

We grabbed a beer and were ready to party… or so we thought. Honestly? The energy at first was kind of flat. Not sure if everyone there was from Breda, but they weren’t exactly hyping it up. It felt… dead. But we didn’t let that stop us—we dance no matter what. And yeah, we definitely stood out. The DJ noticed us (as always), and probably a few others too. But we don’t care 😊 Life’s a party—act like it.

There were a few Dutch artists performing, which was cool, but when RONDÉ came on and my friend pointed out how very Dutch her accent was when singing, I couldn’t un-hear it. It drove me a little nuts—but we laughed about it a lot.
Anyway, I’m jumping all over the place. Here’s the lineup from that night:

  • DJ Tom van der Weerd
  • RONDÉ
  • DJ Tom van der Weerd
  • Yves Berendse
  • Pommelien Thijs
  • DJ Lars Boele
  • Emma Heesters
  • DJ Lars Boele
  • Lucas & Steve

Pommelien Thijs really impressed me. What a voice! She put on a great show—total powerhouse.
Yves Berendse, on the other hand… not my thing at all. I’m not big on Dutch-language music to begin with, and this was just a hard no for me.

Still, it ended up being a fun night. But would we do this again? Probably not. We won’t be heading back to Breda any time soon—next time, we’ll find something closer to home.

On the way back, we finished the second bag of candy (obviously), and thanks to roadwork and detours, it took us a bit longer to get home.

But all in all: Breda, you were fun. Maybe we’ll see you again sometime 😊
